Alberto Simões has graduated in Portuguese Language and Culture from the University of Lisbon, and holds an MA degree in Contemporary Film and Audiovisual Studies from Pompeu Fabra University. Previously, he worked in teaching Portuguese as a foreign language in various universities and as a translator.
He joined the PHD-COMP programme in January 2020 as a FCT scholarship holder (PD/BD/150572/2020). His research focuses on the representation of memory in contemporary cinema, with a specific interest in the cinematographic representation of traumatic memory in the Iberian Peninsula.
His work was developed under the tutorship of Professor Filipa do Rosário, and he is now being supervised by Professors Santiago Pérez Isasi (University of Lisbon) and Glória Salvadó Corretger (Universitat Pompeu Fabra).
He is a member in training of the Centre for Comparative Studies, where he is part of the cluster Cinema and the World – Studies on Space and Cinema in the THELEME group.
